ATSA Fellowship Committee:
It is my great honor to recommend William Schmidt, Ph.D., for ATSA Fellowship.
I first met Dr. Schmidt at the ATSA convention 2 years ago when he gave a very sagacious workshop, after which we visited in depth about the interface of spirituality and the work of ATSA professionals. (“Sex, Priests, and Power: The Anatomy of A Crisis”) We discovered that we had so much in common that we – pre-Covid – decided we would like to do an ATSA workshop together in the future.
Dr. Schmidt’s outstanding credentials include not only having a Ph.D. from the University of Houston School of Social Work but also a Master of Divinity from the Immaculate Conception Seminary, Diocese of Rockville Centre, New York. As a Catholic priest he enriched the lives of so many internationally, being bilingual (tri-lingual which references American Sign Language).
His licenses and certifications include 1) MSW; 2) LSOTP (Approved Supervisor); 3) Chemical Dependency Counselor (Approved Supervisor); 4) Marriage and Family Therapist (Approved Supervisor); and 5) Sexual Addiction Therapist (Approved Supervisor).
Dr. Schmidt’s integrity is sterling; his compassion for others is his life-long credential. In fact ,he was honored with the Pax Christi Award for Promoting Solidarity Between the People of the Americas. He was also given special accolades by being awarded the Mary E. Richmond Award by the University of Houston for exceptional community service, being one, “. . . who embodies social work values and ethics.”
In my personal and professional judgment, Dr. Schmidt honors us by his presence and his inexorable desire to help those who are fortunate to make his acquaintance. He is so deserving of being awarded ATSA Fellowship.
Respectfully,
Harvey A. Rosenstock, M.D., LSOTP
President, Texas ATSA
